MCE Partners with ABS to save their energy storage program
About MCE
Marin Clean Energy (MCE) is a not-for-profit public agency providing clean energy to more than one million residents and businesses in 37 member communities across four Bay Area counties: Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, and Solano. The company's mission is to confront the climate crisis by eliminating fossil fuel greenhouse gas emissions, producing renewable energy, and creating equitable community benefits.
The Challenge
MCE's goal was provide their customers with an innovative, behind-the-meter battery energy storage program that would lower energy costs and carbon emissions, and keep electricity flowing during Public Safety Power Shutoffs and other outages. Participating customers would own and receive the benefits of the battery at little-to-no upfront cost to them with support from MCE and resource programs.
MCE originally selected five other contractors to implement the program. Unfortunately, they all failed to execute the energy storage program in a manner that met MCE and its customers' expectations. ABS was introduced to MCE as a “last resort” before deciding to cancel the program altogether.
The Solution
We slowed down to speed up" - Since all other contractors failed to meet MCE's needs and goals, ABS understood that taking the time needed upfront -developing a solid plan of action detailing fail-proof Standard Operating Procedures - with the proper timelines and workflows - was key to the program's success.
Each new project included a Full Site Audit and Scoping Proposal detailing timelines, recommended equipment, workflows, roles/responsibilities and budget breakdown. By completion of the first project, ABS had proven to be a partner MCE could trust to implement the program for all participating customers.
