Auburn, California, Dec 4, 2020 – ZERO EMISSIONS TRANSPORTATION IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES: ABS announced this morning that it has been awarded a contract to build a mobility hub to offer zero-emissions transportation to underserved neighborhood’s in Sacramento, CA.

ABS was selected for this project based on their vast experience within the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) ecosystem. As a design-build contracting firm, ABS have an impressive resume of clients over the last 20+ years delivering projects of this nature. ABS also “owns & operates” a robust network of publicly accessible electric vehicle chargers throughout the State of California acting as a critical component to the States electrification goals, and roadmap.

Green Technical Education and Employment (Green Tech), ABS’ client, is a community-based, non-profit organization charged with providing quality workforce skills, education and health strategies to maintain sustainable communities.

“One of the major problems we have is transportation to our programs,” said Simeon Gant, executive director of Green Tech Education, which has two training centers in Oak Park and one in Del Paso Heights. Its programs help train students in clean energy technology, construction, sustainability, utilities, manufacturing and other fields.

The mobility hub may be the first of its kind in California, featuring a direct-current electric car fast charger (DCFC) and Level 2 chargers for electric vehicles, which will be available for free to residents who qualify. The space will also be a transit hub for an electric bus and ride-hailing service for the neighborhood, according to the plans submitted to the city. The mobility hub will take what is now a blighted empty lot and turn it into an aesthetically pleasing and landscaped area that serves the community, Gant said.

The Green Tech Mobility Hub will be a 12-car surface parking lot, with room for electric busses to make stops, and featuring landscape, trees, free WIFI, electrified benches, electrified bike racks and an area for a food truck to park as well.

ABS intends to break ground on this project by late this year, with project completion forecasted in early Q2 2021.

As the president of Alco Building Solutions, Inc. (ABS) I would like to give you a little background on our company, sharing some of our values and our commitment to the community as well. ABS started in 1995 as ALCO ELECTRIC and became an "Electrical & General Construction" firm in 2004, incorporating that same year.

Safety, craftsmanship, integrity, technical knowledge and collaboration are values that we consider important within our business. We have been fortunate to positively impact many people and communities in our work. It's humbling to be contributing to those around us, doing something within an industry that we are so passionate about.


Since our inception, our firm has completed numerous projects in the fields of Electrical (commercial, industrial, institutional and large residential), General Construction, EV Charging Infrastructure, Facility Maintenance, and Energy Services. In putting our values to practice, I have served as a Chairperson for Rebuilding Together (2001-2006), Economic Development Commissioner (1/06/2004-12/31/2007) with the City of Duarte,CA, and I have served on the "Route 66 Parade" committee for over 10 years as well. I have also served as the President of the Duarte, CA Elks Lodge. We live out our values through our actions... It's that simple.

Josh uses his extensive industry knowledge to collaborate in helping customers conceptualize, design, finance, and implement general construction, tenant improvement, energy optimization and sustainability projects throughout the west coast. Josh’s technical strength is complimented by stellar communication skills allowing him to easily translate customer needs into technical guidelines providing leadership for our internal teams, and clients.


Throughout his career, he has developed and implemented a variety of construction, energy optimization and sustainability projects with warehouse/distribution, food processing, healthcare, K12, higher education, manufacturing, municipal, and federal government customers, including many national accounts.


Prior to joining ABS, Josh was employed as the Business Unit Manager with SmartWatt Energy overseeing all west coast operations. Josh is also an award-winning manager/leader, and has been recognized for this skill set from all prior employers.
